The Department of Business Management

Nestled in the sprawling, sylvan campus of Osmania University, the Department of Business Management has been conducting a two-year postgraduate programme in Business Management since 1964. It was established as an independent entity in 1971.

Recognising that ‘change’ is the ‘mantra’ of today’s corporate world and the department being autonomous in its functioning and curriculum planning, it keeps updating itself to adapt to the ever-changing demands of today’s corporate world.

The department trains 80 students every year with the best of faculty and facilities. The faculty comprises of intellectually stimulated academicians having a vast experience that enables them to impart practical knowledge. They are in touch with the practicalities and intricacies of business and are constantly striving to transform the students into successful and progressive leaders of the future.

The department takes pride in providing its students with the best of facilities like, an excellent library, state-of-the-art computer laboratory and a well-equipped auditorium.

With the objective of catering to the increasing demand for managerial and entrepreneurial excellence, the department offers a number of programmes, moulding the students for the challenges of tomorrow.

Masters of Business Administration

Collaborative Programmes

In addition to those mentioned above, the department has collaborated with the following organisations / institutions through a Memorandum of Understanding [MOU], to offer tailor-made programmes.

The Confederation of Indian Industry [CII] to offer a Masters Degree in Technology Management [MBA-TM] and a Post Graduate Diploma in Technology Management [PGDTM]. The College of Defence Management [CDM] to offer a Masters Degree in Management Studies for Senior Officers of the Army and Navy & Air Force deputed by the Ministry of Defence to undergo the LMDC Programme. The Sardar Vallabhai Police Academy located at Shivarampally, Hyderabad for running a Masters Degree in Police Management for IPS probationers. The Management of Apollo Hospitals LTD and Owaisi Institute of Hospital Management for offering a Masters Degree in Hospital Management. National Institute of Tourism & Hospitality Management - an Institute established by Government of India and AP Tourism Development Corporation.

Infrastructure

Library

A bookworm’s paradise, the library is well equipped with a wide range of management literature. It is an epicentre of learning and reference. It has an excellent collection of over 32, 000 books on management and allied fields. The library subscribes to about 110 foreign and Indian journals and periodicals in functional and general areas. The library also stocks more than 2, 000 project reports and various thesis for reference.

The students also have access to the University Main Library which has more than 5, 50, 000 books, 400 periodicals, 58, 000 bound volumes of journals, 145 microfilms and a vast collection of CD-ROM’s.

Information Systems

‘Indigo’, the Computer laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art computers with Pentium IV Processors. A UNIX server and Dell 450 MHz, P II dual configuration, Windows NT server support the network. Latest electronic databases, a range of software packages and Internet are available. The department also subscribes to latest versions of software such as SPSS, accounting packages such as Focus, Tally and Database Management packages such as Oracle 8i.

Sports and Other Facilities

Osmania University has numerous stadium and extensively spread-out playgrounds for Cricket, Football and Basketball. It also facilitates for indoor games, a well-equipped gymnasium and a swimming pool. The recent addition is a velodrome, which was used for the National Games in December 2002.

Auditorium

An Auditorium with a capacity of 300 seats used for seminars, functions and cultural events is available in the department, among several other auditoriums in the University.

Credits

Achievements During the year, the students of the Department participated in a wide spectrum of activities. Be it management meets organized by other B-schools or other competitions, our students proved their mettle time and again.

	Vinay Pandey and Praveen Kumar Reddy bagged the honour of being the "All India Best Management Team" at Operacy 2004 - the annual management festival of Kirloskar Institute of Advanced Management Studies, Harihar P. Venkatesh and K. Kishore Kumar won the third prize in "ET in the classroom Quiz - 2004" N. Ravi Shankar and K. Madhu Chandra won the third prize in "Business Line Quiz - 2004" 14 students of the Department received the prestigious PRATIBHA Scholarship, awarded by the Government of Andhra Pradesh for excellent in ICET 2003 (The common entrance examination for admission to MBA/MCA courses)
